Bruce Tabor

CEO/Superintendent Of Goodwater Montessori Schools

Dr. Bruce Tabor came to his career in public education after serving in the US Marine Corps and then enjoying several successful business management roles throughout the US. Through these experiences, he discovered his interest in teaching and learning. As an educational leader, he enthusiastically supported increasing dual credit opportunities and other advanced instruction by addressing the complicated issues of  connectivity. Distance learning and online learning were severely  hampered due to the lack of accessibility for students in rural school districts. His commitment to leveling the playing field for these students is evidenced in his doctoral studies and his work as a founding member  and Vice President of Region 12 Technology Cooperative. Additionally, under his leadership and for the first time in the district’s history, free  iPads were provided for all high school students through a TEA  Technology grant. As well, Bruce also oversaw construction of the  state-of-the-art Wortham High school. These significant advancements in technology and the coordination of free internet accessibility for the  community was at least in part, why Wortham ISD was named TASB  Small School Board of the Year.

As an advocate for never stop learning, Bruce continued his education  throughout his professional career. Prior to accepting the leadership role as Superintendent/CEO of Goodwater Montessori School in May of 2019, Bruce served as the Superintendent of Ezzell ISD and Wortham  ISD. He also held the position of Vice President of Operations, Technology, and Advancement at Navarro College in Corsicana, TX.

Bruce received his undergraduate degree from the University of  Memphis in Marketing Management, his MBA in Business Management from St. Edward’s University, his Master of Education in Elementary  Education from Texas State University, and his doctorate in Educational  Leadership from Lamar University. His Dissertation, entitled “The Development, Implementation, and Evaluation of Online Learning Platforms in Rural Schools in Texas”. The study focused on improving  access to electronic tools (cell phones, iPads, laptops, free internet, and  more) for rural students, which were falling behind their urban  counterparts due to lack of connectivity and other issues.

As an educator, Bruce taught Education courses at Navarro College, was a Montessori lower elementary teacher, served as 5th Grade self contained classroom teacher, assistant principal, and principal, as well  as Superintendent/CEO. Other districts where he has worked include  Burnet CISD, Lexington ISD, San Saba ISD. Bruce is passionate about  Montessori and how to integrate the state requirements into the  Montessori methodology of instruction. He is currently the Superintendent/CEO at Goodwater Montessori and is leading strategic efforts toward the growth of a training and development center to  provide Montessori teacher training.

Bruce is married to Sharol, they have a daughter and two grandchildren  living in Virginia Beach, VA. He enjoys golf, bicycling, photography, and reading.
